Building a webpage is an easy way to solicit donations or tell the story of a team or honoree. Email run@TheRelay.com if you would like to run or walk for a transplant candidate. Online donations at First Giving will be added to the totals at Registered Teams prior to May 1.

THE GOAL: $600/TEAM ($50/runner or walker) BY APRIL 15
Raise $1,200 ($100/runner or walker) to receive lunch for the team on the beach at the finish.
Raise $6,000 ($500/runner or walker or donate an organ!) by March 1 to waive the team entry fee.

GETTING STARTED IS EASY UTILIZING TWO PROVEN FUNDRAISING TECHNIQUES
Many runners, walkers and volunteers have raised more than $50. (The 2005 Agony of DeFeet team raised $1,000 per runner.) The first technique involves minimal effort by targeting the Charitable Matching Programs offered by many employers. These companies will match the entry fee and/or donations to ORU.

The second method, soliciting friends, relatives and coworkers, is preferred by ORU.
1. Contacting others furthers the message about the need for organ donors.
2. Contacts are invited to become runners, walkers or volunteers.
3. By informing others of your efforts, participants receive recognition for helping to save lives.
4. Humorous and heartwarming team stories are entertaining.

SAMPLE EMAIL (to be copied and personalized)
Dear ...,
On (date), I will be running (or volunteering) 199 miles through 36 cities (or walking 128 miles through 28 cities) and across the Golden Gate Bridge on a 12-member team during the largest event in the world promoting organ donation. During The Relay, known as California's Longest Party, passing the baton to my next team member will symbolize the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. The 2005-2007 races are dedicated to three-year- old Katalina Thang who waited two years for the tiny donor to save her. On September 4, 2006, Katalina received a heart and two lungs.

Please discuss your personal wishes regarding organ donation with your family. This will allow loved ones to make an informed decision if you become a potential organ donor.
