LEG ASSIGNMENTS / COURSE SUMMARY
TABLE
ASSIGNING LEGS
Since twelve team members walk two times in rotation, captains assign
a group of two legs to each walker. The Course Summary Table provides
information about these leg groups.
The table shows that Walker 1 walks Legs 13 and 25, which are 6.0 and 5.5 miles,
for a total of 11.5 miles. These legs are Moderate and Easy.
Total mileage for a single walker varies from 7.9 (Walker 5) to 13.2 miles (Walker 7).
Walkers 5 and 6 travel the shortest total mileage (7.9, 8.9 miles), but climb the
Santa Cruz mountains (Legs 29, 30). Walker 6 walks the Golden Gate Bridge (Leg 18) and
the steepest hill (Leg 30). Leg 19 is the longest leg (7.0 miles).
DIFFICULTY
The Course Summary Table allows captains to match walkers' abilities
to groups of legs by listing the Difficulty of each group. The Difficulty
ranges from 1 (hard) to 12 (easy).
Walker 6 has the hardest group of legs, indicated by 1 in the Difficulty column. Walker 6 walks Leg 18 (5.8 miles)
and Leg 30 (3.1 miles), which are Hard and Very Hard. Walker 12 walks the easiest group of legs, indicated by 12 in
the Difficulty column.
