GETTING STARTED IS EASY UTILIZING THREE PROVEN FUNDRAISING
TECHNIQUES
1. Build a webpage (in
under five minutes), tell your team story and send the link to contacts soliciting credit card donations.
2. Send the sample email (below) to contacts soliciting donations by check.
3. Utilize the Charitable Matching Programs offered by most employers. These companies will match the entry fee
and/or donations to ORU.
SOLICITING FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COWORKERS WITH THE SAMPLE EMAIL
(below):
1. furthers the message about the need for organ donors.
2. invites others to become runners, walkers, volunteers or organ donors!
3. recognizes participants for helping to save lives.
4. is entertaining if humorous and heartwarming team stories are included.
THE $600/TEAM MANDATORY FUNDRAISING
FOR ORU IS DUE APRIL 15
so teams can be credited prior to the Start. Captains may view off-line
fundraising totals on their Captain's page via the Online
Entry as a returning user (requires User Name and Password). Online
fundraising totals are viewable at Firstgiving.
SAMPLE EMAIL (to be copied and personalized)
Dear ...,
On (date), I will be walking (or volunteering) 128 miles through 28 cities and across the Golden Gate Bridge on
team (team name) with 11 friends during the largest event in the world promoting organ donation. During The Relay Walk,
known as California's Longest Party, passing the baton to my next team member will symbolize the transfer of an
organ from donor to recipient. The 2005-2009 Relay Walks were dedicated to Gilda
Vallente who received two kidneys on February 5, 2006, four-year-old Katalina Thang who received a new heart and lungs on September 4, 2006,
Shawn Stockwell who received a new heart on July 31, 2008 and
Katie Grace Groebner who needs a new heart and lungs.
Please discuss your personal wishes regarding organ donation with your family. This will allow loved
ones to make an informed decision if you become a potential organ donor.
Thanks in advance for your support of 100,000 Americans waiting for organ transplants.
PS Please run, walk, donate an organ(!), time (volunteers are needed even at 2 am, ouch!) or money online
(include link to view team story and solicit online donations) or by check payable to Organs 'R' Us, 501 (c) (3)
Tax ID 94-3333306, 570 El Camino Real, Suite 150-330, Redwood City, CA 94063. Please write (my team name) on the
bottom of your check.
OTHER SUCCESS STORIES INCLUDE HOSTING
a fundraising dinner, auction, bake sale, clinic, dance, garage sale, lecture or raffle.
